Thanksgiving Weekend Recap – A Memorable Family Road Trip
Our bellies and hearts are definitely full after spending the long Thanksgiving weekend enjoying family, delicious food, beautiful sights, a little Black Friday shopping and a memorable family road trip in the 2016 Buick Enclave.
Huge thank you to the MSLGROUP and GM/Buick for providing my family with a 2016 Buick Enclave to test drive during our Thanksgiving trip. We enjoyed a memorable family road trip thanks to all the great features of this beautiful crossover SUV. You can check out my full auto review here.
* I was given the 2016 Buick Enclave to test drive for one week, free of charge. As always, I only share what I LOVE and all opinions are always my own
Packing for a family road trip? Here’s my favorite hack! Use a laundry basket to pack up everything your kids will need during the trip. This makes it SIMPLE to pack, SIMPLE to reach what you need and SIMPLE to unpack when your return home.
You can hear more of my Family Road Trip Tips by watching the video below. Find me on Periscope! I’m @NYCTechMommy.
On this trip we drove up to the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania to enjoy Thanksgiving with family.
The built-in 4G LTE™ Wi-Fi Powered by OnStar® was one of our favorite features in this car! It made it super easy to keep the kids entertained during the 2 hour drive. It also allowed me to catch up with my social media channels, while working a bit on the blog. When going on a road trip it really helps to bring your devices along. It makes the time go faster!
We arrived at our destination on Tuesday night, enjoyed a lazy Wednesday and of course spent the entire day on Thursday cooking, eating and enjoying lots of family fun.
Hoping you all enjoyed a wonderful fun-filled Thanksgiving with family!
Of course, no Thanksgiving weekend is complete without a bit of Black Friday shopping and since the grandparents were available for babysitting, the hubs and I hit the road ALONE!
We probably spent way more than we should have during our little shopping spree but the Black Friday deals we came across were just too great to pass up!
* The deals and locations/destinations mentioned throughout this post ARE NOT sponsored or for promotional purposes. They are just based on my own experiences and what I love. Opinions are always my own.
We found this great deal at BJs ! Just couldn’t pass up on this one, plus I figured it was probably time to make this blogging thing look a bit more official! (sorry trusty iPhone).
As you can imagine, stores were full of StarWars deals and we couldn’t pass those up either. We are super hyped up about the upcoming Star Wars movie! Yes! We are a family of geeks. 🙂
Eventually, all the shopping made us a bit tired so a little coffee-break was in order.
Once our wallets were all empty we hit the road once again. Whenever we’re up in the Pocono mountains we just love to drive wherever the road will lead us.
While driving the winding mountain roads we’ll often come across new places to visit. It so much FUN to make little pit-stops at roadside attractions we encounter along the way. During this drive, we came across Bushkill Falls and decided to make a quick stop.
Unfortunately, it was late in the afternoon so we were only able to take a quick look around before closing time. Next summer we’ll definitely be back for a long hike along their many trails and a for a glimpse of the actual Bushkill waterfalls. They’re known as the “Niagara of Pennsylvania” so I can’t wait to check it out!
Before getting back on the road we caught a nice glimpse of the mountain sunset. It’s such a pretty view from here.
Actually, I think all the views up here are pretty spectacular!
We drove a bit further down the road and found another really cool attraction!
We had fun checking out the gift shop and picked up a few little trinkets for the kids, including a couple of dreamcatchers that I can’t wait to hang in the kids’ rooms. Pics will be up on my Instagram soon, I’m sure. lol
The hubs and I enjoyed a great day together! We love taking long drives and I’m so glad we got to squeeze one in (without kids) during our Thanksgiving weekend.
Of course, we couldn’t forget to also spend a little quality time with the kids! So on Saturday we hit the road with our Big Boy. I can’t remember the last time it was just the three of us on a little adventure. Baby Girl stayed behind with the Grandparents and I’m sure they spoiled her till no end.
Our Big Boy had been anxiously awaiting the new Disney Pixar movie, the Good Dinosaur, (I had been too) so we headed out to the movies. However, this wasn’t your usual movie experience. We drove into town at Mt. Pocono and visited the Casino Theater, an old movie house building turned entertainment center that also houses a blast from the past Malt Shoppe, completely decorated with nostalgic 1950s decor and serving old-fashioned ice cream parlor treats in traditional glass dishes. So cool! They also serve some great burgers and fresh-cut fries here. It’s an extra special treat that they deliver them right to your seat once you’re seated inside the movie theater. They also have a pretty fun game room here and you know the Big Boy had to play a few games while we waited for the movie to begin. This little place was just too adorable for words! I can’t believe we hadn’t been here before. They also have a mini-golf course right outside. I am pretty sure we’ll be back once the weather gets a bit warmer.
The pics above speak for themselves! The Big Boy had a blast! His parents did too! And if you haven’t seen the Good Dinosaur yet, you should! We loved it and the great lessons it taught us about friendship, family and overcoming your fears.
And then just like that, the long Thanksgiving weekend was over. That left us with a trunkful of stuff to unload. The hubs is always annoyed at how much extra stuff we end up bringing back after a road trip. You know, a little shopping will do that to you! But this time, he was glad we had lots of room to comfortably lug it all back! Pssst, There’s even some Thanksgiving left-overs packed in there!

The Enclave is a great SUV! I test drove a 2015 back in May when I was looking for a new car. Love the on-board Wi-Fi, such a great feature! Looks like you had a great time on your trip! 🙂
