Guest Appearance on The Latina Mom Legacy Podcast: Empowering Latino Families Through STEAM Education

I’m excited to share my recent appearance on The Latina Mom Legacy Podcast! As an annual guest, I usually join the show to discuss the latest and greatest toys and share our annual toy giveaway. However, this year was extra special because I had the opportunity to share my exciting new venture: Homeschool STEAM.

I recently had the pleasure of joining Janny Perez, a friend and long-time collaborator, bilingual parenting educator, and host of The Latina Mom Legacy podcast, to chat about what I’ve been building over the past year and how my educational business is supporting local families and helping them embrace STEAM education. During our chat, I shared my journey from being NYC Tech Mommy to creating a program that brings STEAM to life for kids in Florida and beyond.

Here’s a sneak peek into the topics we covered in this interview:

  • The story behind Homeschool STEAM and the inspiration for launching my program.
  • Why STEAM education is so critical, especially for Latino families, and how our STEAM workshops break down barriers.
  • Popular STEAM toys for the holiday season (keep reading for our top 5!).
  • Common myths about STEAM education and how we debunk them for families.
  • My personal vision for the future of Homeschool STEAM and the impact I hope to have within my community.

Did you know that minorities are significantly underrepresented in STEAM fields? This gap underscores the importance of engaging all children in STEAM education early on. When learning is fun and meaningful, mainly through hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math, kids build essential skills and see themselves as future innovators.

Why STEAM Education Matters

STEAM education empowers kids with essential skills for today’s world. Through hands-on learning, children develop creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration, while exploring science, technology, engineering, art, and math. This sparks their curiosity and sets them up to be the innovators of tomorrow.

Integrating STEAM into Your Homeschooling Journey

STEAM education should be an integral part of every homeschooling journey. It allows children to explore their interests, develop essential skills, and discover their passions. Here are some simple ways to include more STEAM learning in your homeschool:

  • Explore the world around you: Nature walks, visits to museums, and even trips to the grocery store can be turned into STEAM learning experiences. Encourage your child to ask questions, make observations, and explore how things work.
  • Embrace hands-on activities: Conduct simple science experiments, build structures with blocks, create art projects, and engage in coding activities.
  • Incorporate technology meaningfully: Use educational apps, online resources, and interactive games to enhance learning.
  • Encourage creative problem-solving: Challenge your child to solve real-world problems through design thinking and creative solutions.
